The CEO lecture series for 2016-2018 batch kick-started at Institute of Management, Nirma University on a chilled Monday afternoon on 7th November with Mr. Shiraz Gidwani, the CEO of Iktara World, Dubai as the speaker and chief guest for the session. The theme for the series was ‘Following your Dreams.’ It is one of those rare occasions and moments of pride when a global business professional like Shiraz Gidwani comes down to IMNU to share his thoughts on how one should follow one’s dreams and not look behind before achieving them and setting another targets. He also shared his thoughts on Leadership in the new age.
Mr Shiraz Gidwani, who is a Harvard Business School graduate, is currently working with organizations like Nando’s, Iktara World, Young Leaders Organization. He also has the experience of working with Afras Group and United Nations Youth Development Program. He is a multi-linguistic person knowing languages like Arabic, French, English and Hindi.
He started the session by sharing his story of how he started with 50,000 dollars and went on to be sold out as a million dollar company within 7 years of its commencement. With this he opened the floor for questions encouraging with the quote “No question is a bad question”. There was a healthy discussion and engagement with the students during the QA session. He answered to every question in his own amazing style of linking the questions with a real life incident from his life. He also shared some difficult decisions he had to take unwillingly. He even answered to personal questions with no hesitation.
A really passionate and down to earth, Mr. Shiraz Gidwani, dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, unlike the usual suits, won all the attention in the first half hour and thus completed a very interactive session overall. He said that only 16% students usually get the jobs out of a large pool of students completing their computer science engineering and thus explained how it is necessary to follow your dreams and not live someone else’s. Mr. Shiraz also advised the audience to not take any pressure of someone else’s expectations and enjoy what you do and not to live a life of mediocrity.
He shared his experiences of how he achieved each and every thing that people told he couldn’t. He also told about doing many things just because he was told that he couldn’t. Mr. Shiraz ended the session in a trending way by clicking a selfie with the young audience. The young and passionate CEO, leaving the IMNU campus in his Benz, took no time in uploading the selfie on his official Instagram account.
