An Eventful week @ IMNU

The week before Diwali vacations is always one of excitement as students count the number of days towards that one destination called “home”. That one week saw a number of events organized by clubs and committees, as they sought to make this week memorable.

The week started with a bang with Sports Extravaganza – four days of cricket and volleyball. The first match played was between faculty members and administration. There were matches played between seniors and juniors in cricket (both girls and boys) and in volleyball. In boys cricket, the juniors defeated seniors by 9 wickets with Vivek Kumar top scoring with an unbeaten 49 runs from the juniors team. In the girls cricket, the seniors won the match, defeating the junior team by 6 runs. The match was a closely contested one and saw excellent play from both sides. In the volleyball game, seniors again ruled the day, defeating the junior team 2-1.

Sportzzz Comm, in association with Saral – the in-house NGO of IMNU, organised Li’l Champzzz – a cricket match for the kids from the NGOs of Saral and Prayaas (NGO of IIM Ahmedabad). The children of Prayaas were brought in the morning and treated to snacks and a round of activities. Thereafter the game of cricket game started. The SARAL kids chose to bat first and showed their mettle with the bat scoring 80 runs in 10 overs. Not to be outdone, Prayaas kids chased down the target with 2 overs to spare. In all, the event was enjoyed by both the kids and their mentors. Later, the kids were treated to a sumptuous evening tea.

Niche – The Marketing Club of IMNU organised an event that called on students to apply their newly learned concepts of Marketing. Messiah – A social Marketing challenge” – an event where teams were given a social issue, and the team had to create a story containing location, segment affected, challenges to eradicate the issue and other points to build up a meaningful story. Once the picture had been captured, team had to devise marketing strategies which would help “Messiah” (your fictitious character) with an objective to create awareness and mitigate the issue at that place. Total 7 teams were shortlisted for the final round which included presentation of their story and strategies to the judges. Finally, the winners of this event were – Manjary Agarwal and Team.( MBA-FT 1st year).


The week closed with Swayam – The Entrepreneurship Club of IMNU conducting its second event of the year: Idea Generators. Nearly 30 teams registered for the event. Participating teams were given a newspaper from which they had to come up with an idea and create a business plan centred on it. Students from MBA (FT), MBA (FB&E) and BBA streams participated in the event. In the first stage, all teams submitted a brief write-up on their idea. After a short-listing of these ideas, six ideas were selected and teams were asked to present their business plan in 15 minutes. The event was judged by Swayam club faculty co-ordinator Prof Satish Nair. Prof Nair praised the team for coming up with such an innovative event and stressed on the strength of the idea before starting a business.

This was probably the only week so far for the juniors where they were spoilt for choice in deciding which event to participate!!
