Krishna Janmashtami, the annual commemoration of the birth of Lord Krishna, falls on the eighth day or Ashtami of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. This year, this auspicious occasion was celebrated with immense fervour and festivity at Institute of Management, Nirma University on the 28th of August, 2013. The event was organized by the Cultural Committee of IMNU.
With religious and peppy songs setting the mood for the celebrations, all the students got invigorated for the day ahead. The Matki Phod venue – the Hostel-G compound, became abuzz with different teams of the University practising to form the human towers. Gulaal and water streams filled the air, and then started the Matki Phod at 9:30 a.m., one team after another testing its mettle. It was a great moment of bonding among all the students. Exemplary teamwork, dedication and strategies were witnessed, while never losing out on the fun. A never-say-die spirit was also seen when the towers collapsed but kept getting rebuilt soon again. The icing on the cake was when the “Saral” kids joined in. The height of the Haandi was lowered; the kids were carefully carried by some students while all others surrounded and cheered for them. Joy knew no bounds when they broke the Haandi. The last one of the 10 Haandis was finally broken by a four-layer high pyramid made by students across programmes joining hands to meet the challenge.
For the Janmashtami Pooja to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, students gathered at the new Food Court at midnight. Devotees worshipped Balgopal with Aarti, Bhog, and by rocking His little cradle.
For many, the day turned out to be one of the best days at IMNU. Thus, the wonderful Janmashtami celebrations came to a happy end leaving us with countless memories to cherish.
