“Knowledge is free at the library, just bring your own container”

Library Resource Centres are seldom a discussion point amongst B-school communities. A B-school library is not just a room full of books but in fact, one of the pillars helping the institute stand erect. Institute of Management, Nirma University has been consistently climbing up the ladder in the rankings’ chart by various media houses and online platforms. The reasons for it are aplenty. Prime among them but hidden is its library resource center. Consistently rated as one of the best in the country among B-schools, the library is well-equipped to meet the requirements of not only the students and faculty of the institute but also of other institutes affiliated to Nirma University.

Like any organization or a community, the success of the library at Institute of Management, Nirma University is driven by the ones managing it, the library staff. The work group here works diligently collecting, classifying and disseminating data and information from the web, journals, databases, articles etc. to its diverse audience. They try to come up with innovative features regularly to extend their helping hand to the students in every possible way. Every week they choose 2 or 3 courses from the current trimester and display materials on these in the “Topical Display” section. “Must read” section houses book titles suggested by Alumina Students and Faculty, to be read by our students by the time they graduate from here. For the library staff, de-jobbing has become a part of their job.

Also, the Library follows a Selective Dissemination of Information system where they send out alerts for new arrivals in books, periodicals and journals to all the students and content alerts of scholarly periodicals to the faculty. This is done so that students have all the latest information at their fingertips and at their convenience. They also have a ‘periodical of the week’, ‘quote of the week’ and ‘website of the week’ coming out weekly to encourage interaction and dissemination of insights with students. Further, the library helps students and faculty sifting through relevant articles and journals on request. Thus the students are facilitated with the latest reading resources from all over the world on a regular basis due to the painstaking efforts of the dedicated library staff. No wonder, the library stands way ahead of its peers.
